Jenny Funnell's radio acting career got off to an auspicious start when she won the Canton Hobbs Radio Drama Award while still at drama school in 1984. The award gave her six months with the BBC Radio Drama repertory company and an instant Equity card.
"Radio is the one continuous thread in my career," says the 30-year-old actress, who played Judi Dench's secretary Sandy in BBC1's As Time Goes By. This week, she's back on home ground on Radio 4 in a first play for radio by Nick Weldon (son of Fay). Funnell, who has a twin sister, was born In Kenya, but the family returned to Britain when she was 4. A keen pianist and water colour artist she lives In Tooting, London.
