In Memory of Roy Kinnear
Dame Judi Dench has opened a care home dedicated to the name of actor Roy Kinnear who died after an accident on a film set 11 years ago .

Kinnear's widow Carmel was beside Dame Judi as she cut the ribbon to open the Shaftesbury Society and Roy Kinnear Foundation home in Twickenham, West London.

The facility will be home to their 24-year-old disabled daughter Karina who is severely disabled and was born with brain damage.

Only a year after her father's death she underwent surgery to correct the onset of curvature of the spine but was left paralysed from the waist down.

Her mother said: "She's a very happy little lady. In the past no provision had been made for the future of young disabled adults because nobody was expecting them to have a future."

Dame Judi said: "This is a real achievement, a real step forward to help young handicapped people."
