Those of you with access to HBO will be able to see Into the Arms of Strangers beginning on Monday, December 10 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time. It will be repeated often, so check your local schedule for the time that is best for you. The winner of the 2000 Academy Award(R) for Best Documentary Feature, this extraordinary film tells the firsthand stories of 12 Jewish children saved from the Holocaust through a humanitarian project enacted by Britain in 1938. In an act of unmatched mercy just prior to the start of WWII, Great Britain opened its doors to and set up foster care for more than 10,000 Jewish and other children from Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia. The majority of these children never saw their families again. Through the words of survivors, photos and painstakingly unearthed footage, this documentary reveals the heartwarming and heartbreaking stories of these refugees. Those interviewed include novelist Lore Segal, her mother Franzi Groszmann, a Berlin coordinator named Norbert Wollheim and a British rescuer named Nicholas Winton. Narrated by Dame Judi Dench.
Thanks to Florence for letting me know that the movie has been scheduled.
